1. Swinney was selling real estate in 2003 when former Clemson coach Tommy Bowden asked him about returning to coaching.

2. Bowden was Swinney’s wide receivers coach at Alabama.

3. Swinney was a walk-on at Alabama and eventually earned a scholarship.

4. Swinney started the “Tiger Walk” -- a ritual where players walk through a crowd of fans on their way to the stadium -- when he became the interim head coach.

5. He won a national championship as a player at Alabama in 1992.

6. He was an academic all-SEC player.

7. Dabo is just a nickname. His full name is William Christopher Swinney.

8. He and his wife, Kathleen, have three sons.

9. Swinney has been one of the Tigers’ top recruiters since joining the staff in 2003.

10. Swinney’s team went 4-2 during his tenure as interim head coach.
