'Ashamed'
Last Modified: Wednesday, August 27, 2008 at 9:47 a.m.
Virginia Brannon of Boiling Springs says she never would have imagined a hospital lobby filled with people drinking alcoholic beverages, but that's just what she encountered on a recent visit to Mary Black Memorial Hospital. "I was there to visit a sister, who is a patient, and the lobby was so packed I had to push my way from wall to wall to get in, and there was so much drinking going on, and I'm not talking Kool-Aid," she fusses. "I stopped to ask a gentleman what was going on, and he said it was a meeting for the Chamber of Commerce. It was so loud that the receptionist had to go to another room to answer calls. I'm sure there are other places in Spartanburg better suited for this type of party. I am very disappointed in the hospital and ashamed of our Chamber."
'BACK OFF': Laura McLeod of Spartanburg is worried about the future. "President Bush and the rest of our government leaders: If you continue as you are, you are in danger of hellfire," she says. "Back off, or you will find total destruction of this Earth."
SHARING?: Glenn Jones of Drayton is wondering which is worse, the drought or all the rain the state of Florida is trying to soak up after tropical storm Fay. "It was rain aplenty, with Cocoa Beach getting 32.92 inches," he notes. "Reckon they're trying to give us half?"
'TERRIFIC': "The hot dog is back," Boiling Springs resident Glennis Martin spreads the word, referring to the latest addition to the Hardee's menu. "They are wonderful," she says. "And if you haven't visited the Hardee's in Boiling Springs lately, you need to go and see the renovations. It is beautiful. While there, you need to try the dogs. The chili is terrific."
WHAT GIVES?: Jean Donald of Spartanburg says someone has some explaining to do. She says the activities director at Park Place Assisted Living worked with some of the residents to plant a vegetable garden, which yielded squash, green beans, corn and other crops. The residents had fun farming, tells Mrs. Donald, but she says they were disappointed that the vegetables could not be served in the dining room. "If there was a problem with someone having time snapping the beans, the residents would have been glad to help. It would have been good therapy," she says. "I'm reminded of the farmer who shared his peaches with a local retirement community. Hearing about that gave me chills. I just wish the residents who planted their own garden could have enjoyed the fruit of their labor in their dining room. It would have brought smiles to their faces."
NOTHING'S CHANGED: Stacy Clark took a shot at Scott Cheek, questioning his sincerity about a recent invitation to a woman to attend his church, where she would be made to feel welcome and loved, but Mr. Cheek isn't ducking. "My earlier comments to Mr. Clark were made out of love, too, and they stand," says Mr. Cheek. "I would be more than happy to help him pack and buy him a first-class ticket to anywhere he wants to go, especially if he still feels the way he does about the soldiers who are fighting for our freedom."
QUIPS A WAG: "Here's an idea for President Bush's library: The Hurricane Katrina Room - Still Under Construction."
ODDS AND ENDS: Creative Tastes, a first-time food and wine festival for Spartanburg, will have downtown streets cookin' Sept. 6, and the search is on for organizations that have published cookbooks. You'll be joining The Stroller at the cookbook tent, where you can sell your cookbooks. To sign up, contact Amanda Ingram at 596-3068.

Maybe Stacy Clark should keep his big mouth shut or if not, I would love to discuss his views concerning our military, face-to-face...anytime....anywhere. He is one sorry loud-mouth!

The idea that the soldiers are "fighting for our freedom" is most certainly debatable. What a sorry attempt to control the discussion. Amazing how many "patriots" are quick to scream "get out". If it weren't for the dissenters in this country there would be nothing left but sheep.
Edit: I wonder how long it will be before someone comes along and tries to twist my words into a "bashing" of the soldiers...

Wabbit is wight er right.
It's amazing how all these "patriots" scream bloodly murder and want to throw people out of the country yet go on and on about the soldiers fighting for our freedom.
Freedom of speech! Hello! While I too have witnessed Clark at City Council and heard one council member muttering he'd like to clean his clock, it is his right as an American to act, and speak, as he does.
That's what makes America great and that's why people still are making their way to our country, some even dying trying to get here - and that reference is to LEGAL immigrants.

There were five protesters, led by longtime activist and failed political candidate Stacy Clark, who waved the Confederate flag and shouted "John McCain, down the drain."

I would say he has been involved.

When his cause succeeds, the timid join him,
for then it costs nothing to be a patriot.

Mr. Clark not only ran as the first Libertarian candidate in Spartanburg history, but had to form the first Libertarian party in Spartanburg history, therefore he WAS NOT a write-in candidate, but a Libertarian candidate.
